2023 Corringham Primary School Annual Report

Corringham CE Primary School – May 2023

Number on roll: 104

Staff roll: 18

Numbers on roll have dropped slightly due to a low birth rate over the last 18 months, however we remain a popular school in the area and have actually accepted three new children to our school as a mid-year admission just this week.

Over the last few years we have been able to offer wrap-around care for our families and this has grown in popularity, often with high teen-numbers attending both our before and after school club, BASE.  So popular it is, we do have a few that just stay for a play even if their parents are free to collect!  This club supports our working families but has also created new staff roles.

We have continued our weekly Walk to School Wednesday where each class is timetabled to walk from the village hall with staff and this year, we are undertaking the Golden Mile challenge which encourages children to keep active and improve on their stamina – something we noticed had declined over the covid period.

This year really seems to have flown by – of course we gathered to mourn the loss of our Queen and we held our remembrance service in school which was impeccably observed by every member of the school.   Our annual Macmillian Coffee morning was very well attended raising over £250.  Our Harvest produced not only gifts for our community but also food packages to donate to the foodbank in Gainsborough.  Our Nativity was beautifully put together by our KS1 team and our Christingle service at church raised nearly £50 for the Children’s Society.

We started January with a whole school visit to Lincoln Theatre Royal to watch the pantomime, we came joint second in the Gainsborough small schools Swimming Gala and got through to the county finals in football. In February we took 40 children to Sheffield to take part in the Young Voices concert and performed alongside Heather Small and in March we celebrated World Book Day by dressing in our favourite PJs and reading bedtime stories, took our Digital Leaders to London to visit the Bett Show and held our school council Easter fair and church service.  Much of April was taken up by the Easter holidays but we returned to take part in a Faith Roadshow, welcoming nine faiths to our school so that the children could explore artefacts and ask questions.  It was a fabulous experience for all the children.  And then came May and despite only being half way through, we have celebrated the Kings Coronation, held a Family Coronation Picnic, our Y6 children have attended Lincoln Cathedral as part of their leavers events and we have submitted a crafted heart as part of the St Barnabas HeArt appeal which will be on display in the Waterside Shopping Centre, Lincoln from next month.

Next month we will begin our transition events, welcoming the new families to our school and supporting our current children with their own transition to new classes and schools.  We will also be taking our Y2 children to the Lincolnshire Show as they have been very busy developing our pond area and have entered the Lincolnshire Schools Challenge competition.  If you are heading to the show, we would recommend visiting the Schools Challenge building as there will be lots on display for you to enjoy.

On top of all this excitement, in February we were joined by two inspectors from Ofsted.  This was an extremely challenging and in-depth visit, particularly in light of the changes to the Ofsted Framework.   Staff were able to show how committed they are to the school and children; the children modelled their fantastic behaviour and governors and leaders demonstrated that they knew the school well.  At the end of the inspection, we were delighted to agree with the inspectors who said that our school had maintained its good status, which has been held for over 10 years now.  We were so proud of our children, we celebrated with a surprise special breakfast.

If you have some spare time, we’d love to hear from you. From listening to readers to helping children with planting or art, we would certainly like to welcome more people from our community.  If you would like to find out more about our school, I would recommend following us on our school Facebook page – we call this our window into school life.  Alternatively, we would welcome visitors to school for a tour if you wish – please just call ahead.
