May 2025 School Report to the Parish Council

Corringham CE Primary School

Parish Council Report

I am pleased to provide a report from Corringham CE Primary School. Pupil numbers remain steady at 103, reflecting our ongoing commitment to providing a nurturing educational environment. We are proud to employ 22 dedicated staff members who work tirelessly to support our children. This term, we have enhanced our team by appointing an extra midday supervisor, further improving the support available during lunch hours.

In addition, we have recently recruited a new teacher, a school business manager and a caretaker, each of whom succeeds long-serving predecessors. With three retirements we waved goodbye to Mrs Jakins, after 10 years of service, while Mrs Hammerton bids farewell this week after an impressive 26 years, providing us with unwavering commitment. Mr Blythe has also completed 14 years with us and leaves us at the end of the month - we hope to welcome him back as a volunteer as the children will miss him in the garden! We extend our warmest wishes and heartfelt congratulations to them as they embark on new adventures. We will miss them dearly.

Recruiting replacements for these three key positions, which represent a remarkable 50 years of commitment to our school, has posed quite a challenge. However, we are delighted to announce that all new staff members have now been successfully recruited, and we eagerly anticipate welcoming them to our school community in the coming weeks.

Since our last update, many exciting activities have taken place at Corringham School. We had the honour of hosting Olympic gold medalist Rebecca Adlington in July 2024, who inspired our students during an assembly and conducted a swimming lesson for our team at Gainsborough Leisure.

Our annual Christmas pantomime visit to Lincoln Theatre Royal was a fantastic experience for our students. We also celebrated our final Advent event by inviting local residents to enjoy a festive Christmas dinner and a lively sing-along. Key Stage 1 and our Early Years children had a marvellous outing to The Deep, and many of our year groups took part in a Multi-Skills Sports Competition. Notably, our swimming team excelled in January, winning the small schools boys' team title and jointly securing first place overall with Blyton.

Our children were actively engaged in the Heapham Church Christmas tree decorating event, and the choir performed beautifully at the Springthorpe Church Christmas service. At Easter, we hosted a small service, inviting community members to enjoy tea and cake with our school council.

The School Council continues to thrive, recently raising funds for Children in Need and assisting Corringham Church’s recent fundraising for new bell ropes.

We are delighted to welcome two new governors to our governing body: Rev. Cotton, representing the Diocese, and Mr James Grundy, our new parent representative. After the summer works last year, we now boast a dedicated nurture/sensory space and a
modernised staff room. This term, we made significant improvements to the Early Years Foundation Stage area, expanding the learning space and incorporating new furniture and resources, fostering a more engaging environment for our youngest learners. We look forward to sharing these new developments on our social media page later in the week.

As always, we warmly invite local residents to visit our school. Former pupils interested in seeing what’s happening inside are encouraged to give us a call; we would love to show you around. We also seek new volunteers to join our community—whether your interests lie in gardening, sewing, or simply spending time with our wonderful pupils, please reach out to us. If you can spare a few hours a week or fortnight, we would be thrilled to hear from you!
